A closer look at the smc PENTAX-FA 50mmF1.4 Classic Lens

The trend in photography has been to create crystal-clear images with no aberrations or unwanted artifacts. This has meant that some of the characteristics of legendary lenses such as those in the Takumar series have been lost. In May 2023, the smc PENTAX-FA 50mmF1.4 Classic Lens was announced alongside the HD PENTAX-FA 50mm F1.4. This gave photographers the choice between a lens that produces ultra-clear images and one with distinctive and unique results.

Here Lee Iveson takes a look at the 50mm Classic in more detail, exploring the rainbow flair effect from wide-open apertures as well as reducing this effect with a higher f-stop.
