Elizabeth I's TURBULENT Love Life

Elizabeth I is remembered today as the greatest Tudor Monarch to have reigned over England. Her father Henry VIII ordered her mother's (Anne Boleyn) execution. During her long reign, Elizabeth defeated the Spanish Armada and tried to solve issues in England with regards to religion. But she became a target to plots that tried to kill her. Throughout her reign, she tried to solve many different problems, but one issue she never solved was one regarding marriage and her successor. Elizabeth I never married, but there were a number of men who were interested in her, and there was one in particular that it was noted that the Queen did love.

Robert Dudley, the Earl of Leicester was considered the greatest love of Elizabeth's life. But she never married him as there was much rumour and speculation that he could have ordered the death of his first wife. Dudley was the one Elizabeth wanted, but he did cross her greatly as he married one of her closest friends. Another suitor to Elizabeth, the much younger Robert Devereux also met his end in bloody fashion, and was executed inside the walls of the Tower of London by the axe. But this summed up Elizabeth I's love life, it was doomed from the start as she claimed she was married to her country. There were many possible men who could have married the Queen though, but what is their story?
