Net Positive Suction Head or NPSH!

Why NPSH is so important to be determined as soon as possible ?

1. The pump shall operate without cavitating for defined process conditions

2. The elevation of equipment above ground shall be fixed, meaning that 3DModel could be updated and the affected isometrics could be modelled - without fixing elevation of equipment hydraulic circuits could not be developed!

Golden rules:

Target a NPSHr (required) arround 3.5 - 4.0 m to find a normal series pump available from Vendors avoiding niche products and special devices like inducer

NPSHa (available) shall be with 0.6-1.0 m higher than NPSHr for normal applications

NPSHa = Vessel operating pressure - Liquid vapor pressure + Liquid static head - Total suction delta p; MPSHa results in meters

Remember to transform pressure in meters using rho*g*H !
