#1 Florida @ #7 Kentucky Wildcats 2003

Kentucky absolutely annihilates #1 Florida (Florida and Billy Donovan's Gators are the newly crowned #1 team in the land, for the first time ever in school history. Where do they have to go and defend that ranking for the very first time?), who comes to the Mecca of college basketball, in historic Rupp Arena.

Florida comes to Lexington as the first AP ranked #1 team since Bob Knight's #1 Indiana Hoosiers left Lexington with a loss December 15, 1979. Yes kids, once upon a time in a galaxy far far away, the Indiana Hoosiers were a relevant and respected basketball program. However, as is the case sometimes in college sports, the coach makes the program and not vice versa. You see IU fans huffed and they puffed, and pontificated as loudly as they could. Hoosiers watched coach after coach come and go, but none could not do what the General could do, beat f%$*ing Purdue and challenge the Wildcats.

In 2020 IU fans will argue until they're Kentucky blue in the face how they're basketball royalty, but the facts will show the last nets they cut down were in an empty arena after a loss to the Buckeyes, and they'll continue to reminisce about Christian Watford's fluke of a buzzer beater before Christmas against mighty Kentucky (memories of their Atlanta rematch blowout in the Regional Semifinals of that year's NCAA tournament escapes them). And that kids is an abbreviated version, minus a lot of ugly losses, (like the one where IU coach Mike Davis had a hissy fit in Freedom Hall, but that's an upload for another day), of how the Wildcats lost a major rival and made room for their new conference foe, those nasty (we only care about basketball when we play Kentucky) Florida Gators.
