In every guitar build, there's an almost magical moment when you apply the first coat of the finish and for the first time you see how it brings out the colours of the wood. This short video shows a few clips from that process for my first home-built guitar, my Padauk Strat.
The body is a single piece of padauk that I was lucky enough to find, with some glorious colours. The neck is maple, and the fretboard is Indian rosewood, with my oak leaf inlay from a piece of the padauk sapwood. The headstock veneer is also from an offcut of the padauk.
The lacquer isa polyurethane semi-gloss, and this is the first time I've tried using it. There will be several more coats.
I think this is going to be a stunning guitar and I'm looking forward to when it will be finished!
