Love, a mere 4-letter word that encompasses the whole universe in it. This Bhajan is an urge to people, to love more and live the moments. A life only devoted to material gains and pursuit of pleasures is nothing but a mere illusion, that looks beautiful from outside but hollow from within.
The poet says that if you didn't experience love or loved someone deeply than all your other engagements in this life are baseless.
You visited the holy shrines but what a pity if you did it with a heart devoid of love. Your heart never loved someone than how will you even love your god!
You are a Qazi, you preach the holy books and divine virtues but it is of no use if you yourself were never able to learn the simple task of loving someone else.
You donned the religious clothing but you know nothing that how love governs this universe. You don't know how your own heart feels, you don't understand your own space, how will you preach others?
The charkha that you spin demands your own soul, your own devotion but you are constantly denying its existence. What a shame that you call yourself a learned man, when in reality, you are just hollow and your soul wants the elixir of love.
Enjoy this Bhajan in the melodious voice of Sakur Khan & Indra Khan.

Translation:
Rolled rosary of the mecca
Made your beard lily-white
You theft others wealth indifferent ways
Neither entered the temple nor masjid
Neither the dark grave
Says Bulleh shah, you would realize
When sand would shower your face
You rolled the rosary
But not the mind
What good in holding the rosary?
Performing rituals, you don’t find the lord
Why good in doing your rituals?
Says Bulleya, without clabber, milk do not settle
Even if turned red, trying and trying
Didn’t gave your head in love
So, what if you lived in this world?
In the city of the Madinah
You did your prostrations, so what?
The irreligiousness of your heart did not break
So, what if you journeyed the mecca?
The kazi open his books
Preaching others, the matter
Didn’t read his own heart
What if you became a kazi?
The yogi does not know the world
Coloured his robes, so what?
Did not colour his house
What if he became a yogi?
My wheel calls, spirit O spirit!
My spirit calls, you only you!
Did not read the lord
So, what if you became a mullah?
Didn’t gave your head in love
What if you lived in this world?
