Bolt in or High Lift Cams and What They Mean for Your Harley Engine

You have a lot of camshaft options for your Harley engine, mainly bolt in style or a high lift. A bolt in cam is meant to fit directly into a Harley engine without any further modifications where a high lift cam will require valve train modifications. Even if you're willing to make those modifications for a high lift cam you may be spending more than you need to unless you plan on taking you're bike to the next level. A high lift cam really doesn't gain much more over a bolt in unless you have high compression and a set of ported heads. Depending on what your plans are it's important to choose wisely when it comes to a bolt in or high lift cam for your Harley engine.
