GUARDAMAR MARKET
A great place to spend some time on a Wednesday morning when visiting the Costa Blanca is Guardamar Market. The seaside town of Guardamar del Segura lies next to the banks of the River Segura and just a short drive from Torrevieja City, and the market is conveniently situated next to the town's bus terminus where frequent buses to and from Torrevieja and Alicante can be caught. Guardamar Market occupies the streets between Carrer Molivent and the Plaza Pescadores and is open every Wednesday from 08:00 – 13:00. There is a further street market every night from 21:00 – 00:00 located on Carrer Enginyer Mira that runs from Guardamar town hall down to the beach.

Guardamar Market
Wandering the market stalls visitors may be lucky enough to spot a rare find at one of the antique or bric-a-brac stalls, but be sure to check out the leather goods and shoes which are of excellent quality in Spain and the majority of the shoes on display come from the local footwear factories in Elche, the country's biggest shoe manufacturing city. Pottery, ceramics, rugs and embroidery are also of exceptional quality in Spain, as are the wonderful selection of extra virgin olive oils, olives, pickles and cured hams and sausage.

Guardamar Market boasts an abundance of fresh produce stalls where you will find colourful fruit and vegetables, herbs, flowers, bread and rolls, free range eggs and various cuts of meat. Usually there is a lady that makes her way up from the small port area with the catch of the day right off the fishing boats, an age old tradition in Guardamar. Other market stalls include new and second hand clothing, homeware, kitchen utensils, toys, sweets, phone accessories, electronics, gadgets, jewellery, cosmetics and toiletries.

Around Town
Guardamar is a great place to visit on market day, with a merry atmosphere and many of the local tapas bars and restaurants adding extra dishes to their menus to attract the hungry crowds. A pleasant way to spend the afternoon is to stock up on tasty goodies from the market food stalls and enjoy a picnic on the beach or in the picturesque Reina Sophia Park where there is a lovely lake, children's playground and picnic seating areas.
