Walking Portland's History - Protecting and Building England

Описание к видео Walking Portland's History - Protecting and Building England

In this slightly different video, we recently walked around 15 miles on the Isle of Portland. The Isle of Portland has an extremely rich and valuable history, and features some amazing historic landmarks. There are castles, forts and a massive amount of quarries. These quarries were used to resource the famous and expensive Portland Stone, which was used to rebuild London following the Great Fire of London. Portland Stone was used to build St Paul's Cathedral and even Buckingham Palace.

Portland also is home to Rufus Castle, and Blacknor Fort. This fort was used to protect England from the Luftwaffe during the Second World War, and helped Britain to become victorious during the Battle of Britain. So join us as we show you around the remarkable Portland, and even show you around Portland Bill and many other amazing places!
