This quiet town of about 50,000 is 40 miles east of Raleigh so it makes a great suburb. It was also once known as the "World's Greatest Tobacco Market."

It's also the site of the Vollis Simpson whirligig park. Simpson was an American folk artist who used scrap metal to make kinetic art, including the whirligigs and windmills.
