Killin, Scotland, A Drive Through.

Killin is a picturesque village located in the central Highlands of Scotland, within the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. It sits at the western end of Loch Tay.

Killin is renowned for its stunning natural beauty, with the Ben Lawers, and Ben Lawers National Nature Reserve nearby, offering excellent hiking opportunities suitable for all abilities. The village has a rich history, with notable attractions like the ruins of Finlarig Castle, once a stronghold of the Campbell clan, and the Moirlanich Longhouse, a rare surviving example of a traditional Scottish longhouse maintained by the National Trust for Scotland.

Despite its proximity to other popular tourist destinations, Killin remains relatively untouched by over-tourism, retaining its charm as a traditional Scottish village with a strong Gaelic cultural heritage. It had been a Gaelic-speaking community for centuries, and in the 18th century, the first Gaelic translation of the New Testament was completed here.

Its compact size and pedestrian-friendly layout make it easy to navigate on foot, adding to its appeal as a relaxing and authentic Scottish village experience.

The Falls of Dochart have been a beloved natural attraction in the Scottish Highlands for centuries, drawing visitors to witness the dramatic cascade of water through the heart of the picturesque village of Killin.

The Falls of Dochart can be viewed from the Bridge of Dochart, a historic stone bridge built in 1760 that crosses the river right in the heart of Killin village. From the bridge, you can see the white water crashing over rocks and flowing around the small island of Inchbuie, which is the ancient burial place of the MacNab clan. At least 15 graves of clan members can be found on the island.

The name "Dochart" is derived from the Gaelic "Doachart", meaning "crooked stream".

St Fillan's Mill was constructed in 1840 to harness the power of the Dochart's flow for agricultural purposes. The mill building now houses an arts and crafts shop.

Across from the falls stands the Falls of Dochart Inn, which was originally a blacksmith's shop. This historic building has been converted into a hotel, allowing visitors to enjoy food and drinks while taking in views of the waterfalls.
