Visit Coconut Island in Hilo Town, Big Island Hawaii

ABOUT COCONUT ISLAND:
Coconut Island is a small beach park in Hilo accessed by a small bridge. This island is also called Moku Ola, which means 'healing island' or 'island of life', and it used to be the home of an ancient temple that was dedicated to healing. Legend has it that swimming around the island three times would heal any ailments or ill feelings. Go for a quick stroll around the island, jump in the water for a swim, or bring some treats for a picnic.

TIPS FOR YOUR VISIT TO THE ISLAND!

#1 - PLAN THE TIME
Approximate time: 10-20 minutes
We recommend enough time to walk around the island, it's a different world once you cross the bridge! But if you have more time, you can spend hours here with a picnic lunch, swim and beach time on it's small white sand inlets, or even a paddleboard or kayak (check local businesses for rentals).

#2 - BRING A PICNIC
If you have time to stay and picnic, we'd recommend grabbing some food in town and finding a grassy spot to relax and enjoy!

#3 - BRING YOUR SWIM SUIT & TOWEL
There's nice sandy inlets to wade and swim in, you can also paddle out and back to the island. Lots of ways to enjoy this little Hilo treasure!
