The Minack theater is located near the Porthcurno village in the southern coast of Cornwall, England. It is a unique open air theatre carved out of granite, with the Atlantic ocean as the backdrop. Its conceptualization to execution was done by one woman, Rowena Cade. It is a unique tourist destination in Cornwall

It is open from May to September every year. Plays, operas or music concerts performed by artists across the world can be seen here.

In 1930, when a theater group wanted to perform Shakespeare’s "The Tempest" and could not figure out a suitable rocky, rugged open space for it, Rowena who was a costume designer then, had an idea to transform the steep rocky cliff beside the sea into an ideal setting for the play. And she single-handedly got to work on that. As a result, on 16th August 1932, theater lovers of Cornwall could watch the Tempest with the Atlantic backdrop below the moonlit Cornwall sky. The Minack became famous, getting featured in the Times. The second world war destroyed most of the theater, but Rowena built it from grounds up once again with her magical touch

Rowena spent 5 decades of her life, till she passed away in 1983, creating this awe-inspiring institution. and ensured that art-lovers across the world could experience something really unique
