Te Makete (Remix) 2023

Описание к видео Te Makete (Remix) 2023

This song was written way back in the 70s or 80s by Gilberties in the Shortland Islands in the Western Province. It has become a popular song since then and is normally choired at special gatherings and on special occasions. It was later sung by our wantoks living in Gizo, Titiana Village. Almost all Gilbertians in the Solomon Islands knew this song very well, and for us, it was like an anthem and a reminder of our ancestors.

The song tells a beautiful story of fishermen struggling to go out fishing despite heavy rain or hot sun. When they returned from the sea, they sold their catch at the markets. The price of fish was just $1.00, $0.50, and $10.00. They happily returned to the village after their fish had all been sold and with what they had received.

This version of the song was re-produced by Ioata Aram and sung by the SIDA-TEKI boys.

Big thanks to my brother Lossa for playing the strings and studio arrangements.
