“In living colours” had a predominantly black cast, with Jim being the only white male. But he was paid well, reportedly twenty-five thousand dollars per episode. Now we all know a black cast is an excuse to disseminate racist and culturally insensitive jokes in the name of inclusivity, which is exactly what “in living colour” became popular for. The vulgar and raunchy content became a part and parcel of the show with political jabs and several racist remarks thrown here and there for extra effect. Such content that harboured on the edge of censorship guidelines was bound to bear the repercussions sooner or later. Especially when the creators of the show refused to take action or tone down the level of inappropriate. So this became the first reason that ultimately led to the downfall of the show: the disagreement between the network and the show creator, Keenan Ivory Wayans.
