Episode 26- Massive "Commemorative" Cairn...and some mysterious other things!

Описание к видео Episode 26- Massive "Commemorative" Cairn...and some mysterious other things!

Large commemorative cairns, such as trail side, memorial, burial and treaty cairns are among the most documented and referenced Native American structures by 1st contact and early colonial observers. Norman Muller's "The Cairns In Our Midst: Historic or Prehistoric?" provides an excellent study of these (https://neara.org/pdf/cairns.pdf) as does Mary and James Gage in their book, "A Handbook of Stone Structures" 2015, pp-215-221.
In this episode, I examine the largest cairn in the forest and compare/contrast to the literature. But... there are 3 mysterious findings at the end that may lead one to believe this could be something else...like an effigy maybe?
These objects are in F. Gilbert Hills State Forest in Foxboro Massachusetts. They are among hundreds of other known ceremonial structural types, such as prayer seats, standing stones, effigies, stone rows, cairns, perched boulders, dolmans, enclosures, stone rings, niches, aligned boulders, and notches. #foxborough #foxboro #massachusetts #nativeamerican #neara #archeology #neolithicage #paleontology #paleolithic #ancient #ancientcivilizations #citizenscience #cairns
