Once upon a time in the West there was Comondu.
A Garden of Eden in the Far-West. Or rather, an oasis in America.

Located in Mexico, in Baja-California, Comonduis one of the 120 oases scattered along this vast1,200 km long desert. It only rains here for a few days each year. And the temperature can reach 50degrees. Yet, in Comondu, there are natural water sources and it is these sources that allowed the first Californians, who came from Europe, to conquer this desert region of America. And to bring about this miracle: growing grape vines in the dessert.
Researchers are fascinated by this Eldorado where water is transformed into wine.

At a time when temperatures on our planet are continually increasing, oases could be a great source of inspiration. How have the men and women in these smallparadises managed to adapt to such extremetemperatures?

Liwa Oasis, the historical birthplace of Abu Dhabi's ruling families, is undergoing significant transformation. Lettuces are now being grown here, on the desert's doorstep, and the local palm groves produce some of the best-known dates in the world. Never before have these landscapes been so lush.

During the long and tumultuous history of this extraordinary place, man and water have forged a unique bond, bringing life to the midst of the desert.

In the north of the Sultanate of Oman lies a small green paradise: the hanging gardens of the Jebel Akhdar oasis. But water scarcity is threatening this way of life.

In eastern Morocco, at the foot of the Atlas Mountains, the Tafilalet Valley is home to one of the largest oases in the world. But this cluster of green islands in the middle of the desert, fed by an ancient irrigation system, is threatened by climate change. Declining water resources, soil degradation, rural exodus: the Tafilalet oasis faces many challenges.

With the help of a team of scientists, the inhabitants are implementing various rehabilitation projects. They are restoring the khettara, underground galleries that capture rainwater and groundwater, and modernizing their beekeeping and livestock farming techniques. This is also an opportunity to rethink the role of women in Moroccan society.
