Almost half a month has passed after transplanting paddy. Now farmers are preparing to protect the paddy crop from disease and pests in the fields. So that their crop yield is not affected. It is worth noting that in the rain, there is a high risk of disease and pests in the paddy crop amid heat, humidity and changing weather. This worries the farmers. Among these diseases and pests, the main one is root rot disease which affects the paddy crop more. Due to this disease, the root of the plant rots due to which the plant dries up. So let's know from the agricultural expert what is the way to prevent root rot disease?

Dilip Kumar Soni (BSc Ag), Assistant Development Officer Agriculture, Government Agriculture Center Shivgarh, Raebareli district, explains that root rot disease in paddy crop is a serious problem which usually starts appearing in paddy crop 20-30 days after transplanting. During this time, the roots of the plants are most sensitive, and if the drainage, soil health, or meteorological conditions are not favorable, then root rot disease can spread rapidly. Therefore, it is important to monitor the plants regularly in the initial weeks after transplanting. So that any problem can be detected and resolved as soon as possible.

Cause of root rot disease

Excess moisture: When there is waterlogging in the field, the roots start rotting, due to which root rot disease spreads.

Poor drainage: If the water is not drained properly in the field, then the roots start rotting.

Poor soil health: When there is a lack or imbalance of essential nutrients in the soil, the immunity of the plants decreases.

Excessive irrigation: Excessive watering also increases the risk of root rot disease.

Infected seeds: If the seeds are already infected, then this disease can spread.

Hot and humid weather: Hot and humid weather is favorable for this disease.

Prevent this like this:

Do not allow waterlogging in the field. Make good drainage arrangements so that the roots do not rot due to stagnant water.

Maintain the pH balance of the soil. Get the soil tested regularly and make corrections as needed.

Treat the seeds with fungicides. This destroys the spores of the disease present in the seed.

Do not plant paddy crop repeatedly in the same field. Adopt crop rotation and plant other crops as well. So that the germs of the disease do not spread in the soil.

Use fertilizers in a balanced manner. Use organic manure. So that the fertility of the soil is maintained.

Avoid excessive or less irrigation. Give water only as per the need of the plants.

Use pesticides after taking advice from an agricultural expert if needed.
