3News has learned that a firefighter with the Tri-Community Joint Fire Department in Huron County has died in the line of duty after responding to a house fire Wednesday night.

The firefighter has been identified as 41-year-old John Saunders by the Huron County Coroner.

"It is with great sadness today. Please keep the Tri-Community Fire Department in your thoughts and prayers as they mourn the loss of one of their own," said Huron County Sheriff Todd Corbin in a Facebook post.

Officials in Huron County told 3News that on Friday, the house re-ignited in flames at around 5 a.m., and the Tri-Community Joint Fire Department responded to the blaze.

The Tri-Community Joint Fire Department, located in Greenwich, also serves Ripley Township and Greenwich Township.
