It is not common for members of the Spanish royal family to take trips without them being officially scheduled, but there are exceptions. This Saturday, it was revealed that Princess Leonor made an unannounced trip away from the Military Naval School of Marín, where she enrolled last August. The reason for the trip is understandable, although the way it was carried out was surprising.

This Sunday, Queen Letizia of Spain celebrated her birthday with her family. Princess Leonor, who began her training at the Naval School of Marín (Pontevedra) on August 29, spent the weekend in Madrid to join the celebration. Like most family anniversaries, except for significant institutional events such as the Princess of Asturias' coming-of-age, it was celebrated in private.

For the second year in a row, Queen Letizia’s birthday is bittersweet, as she will not be able to celebrate with Infanta Sofía, who has already started her new school year in Wales. However, Queen Letizia was pleasantly surprised by Princess Leonor's presence on this special day, something she did not expect.

Spanish media reported that Princess Leonor returned to Madrid, taking a flight at 9 p.m. from Vigo Airport. She was accompanied by a woman, believed to be her personal assistant, along with two bodyguards. She was the last to board the plane and the first to disembark. Only the passengers in business class saw her. Shortly after starting her course at the Marín Academy in Pontevedra, the princess packed her bags for the weekend to spend time with her family on this important day.

There are currently no photos of the reunion. It appears the decision was made at the last minute, as the princess did not take a private jet. Instead, she opted for a regular commercial flight in business class. She maintained discretion throughout, which is why she chose the last flight of the day and blended in with other passengers. While Felipe and Letizia awaited their eldest daughter, they spent the afternoon together, going to the cinema.

On Friday, as they often do almost weekly, King Felipe and Queen Letizia went to the cinema—one of Letizia’s favorite pastimes, which her husband now shares. They watched *Alien: Romulus*, the latest installment in the science fiction saga, directed by Fede Álvarez and starring Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson, at the Ideal cinemas in Madrid.

Since last Thursday, the King and Queen's agenda has been free of official commitments, suggesting that a celebration with friends and family was likely arranged.
