Combined Cycle Power Plant Meaning
The continued quest for higher thermal efficiencies has resulted in rather innovative modifications to conventional power plants.

A combined gas-vapor power cycle is a combination of two power cycles, a gas power cycle, and a vapor power cycle. In gas power cycles, working fluid remains in the gaseous phase, and in the steam power cycle, the working fluid is alternately vaporized and condensed.

In the gas turbine cycle, the average temperature is very much higher than in the steam cycle. Gases enter the gas turbine at around 1600 K and leave about 800 K. So, a lot of heat is wasted and it reduces efficiency as well. Here the need arises to utilize this exhaust temperature.

While the maximum temperature in the steam cycle is only 750 K. It makes engineering sense to take advantage of the very desirable characteristics
of the gas-turbine cycle at high temperatures and to use the high-temperature exhaust gases as the energy source for the steam cycle such
as a steam power cycle. The result is a combined gas-steam cycle.

In this cycle, energy is recovered from the exhaust gases by transferring it to the steam in a heat exchanger that serves as the boiler.
