I extended the streets of a photograph into the distance as a quick matte painting set extension, showing the steps to get a first pass of matte painting.

In Photoshop, start off with your original footage, and look into your original photo & think of what you need for this matte painting extension - prepare a list of references, stock images (for sky, street, of the same lighting/ style)

The final goal is to achieve a completely believable, realistic, invisible & SEAMLESS set extension for the scene. I would need more time to get into the details, and create more irregular patches of buildings as now it is still alittle similar and duplicated, but this method ensures the size, color & perspective is in a very good base to start with. Matte painting takes lots of time, and this recording focuses on the key steps taken. And the overview of where different elements should be.

The use of Adjustment layer: Levels, to check contrast / saturations of different images, to make sure everything blends seamlessly, is also what professional matte painters always do, to make sure their images are perfecting aligned in terms of levels & saturation.
