Pakistan Air Force pays tribute to the brave and enduring air warrior, Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas Shaheed on his birth anniversary. Born on 17 February, 1951, Minhas had a dream of defending the aerial frontiers of the motherland since childhood. He joined PAF Academy Risalpur in 1969 and earned his wings on 14 March, 1971.

Young Rashid started with flying training at No 2 Squadron stationed at Maripur Base, where he was destined for sublime heights by Almighty Allah. On 20 August, 1971 an unforgettable saga of bravery was crafted with his ultimate sacrifice. This is the day when Plt Off Rashid Minhas successfully vanquished the iniquitous intentions of his instructor pilot Flt Lt Mati-ur-Rahman, who tried to hijack his trg jet T-33 towards India.

Without hesitation and living up to highest traditions of the Pakistan Air Force. Rashid Minhas tried to regain control of his aircraft but eventually deliberately crashed the aircraft at a point 32 miles from the Indian border. The brave son of soil accepted to sacrifice his life but didn't allow the country's dignity to be tarnished.

Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas made the supreme sacrifice for the integrity of Pakistan. For this act of heroism beyond the call of duty, the government of Pakistan awarded him with the highest gallantry award of Nishan-e Haider. He will forever be remembered as an icon of bravery & devotion and remain a beacon for our future generations. PAF salutes the valorous air warrior for his sacrifice for the motherland and exceptional bravery.
