Описание к видео Our founder, Waleisah Wilson, speaking at Georgia Justice Day 2017

Georgians gathered today on 2/2/17 at the state capitol to speak with our legislators to ask for them to support criminal justice reform bills that will foster rehabilitation, successful reentry and second chances for those impacted by the criminal justice system.

Our founder, Waleisah Wilson, was invited by Georgia Justice Project as a guest speaker to tell her testimony as a formerly incarcerated individual who has been impacted by the system and continues to encounter barriers to employment and housing due to her one time felony conviction.

She talked about the need for the system to be reformed to be more focused on providing rehabilitation to foster successful reentry and giving second chances by suggesting that the Dept. of Community Supervision provide those who have completed probation and parole with documentation and verification of sentence completion, proof that their civil rights have been restored, the need for the implementation of legislature that will allow those of probation or parole to be able to vote in the state of Georgia and give better options, other than pardons, to those who are rehabilitated, have refrained from criminal activity for a certain length of time and who have become model citizens since returning home.
