HURRICANE IDALIA

The U-S state of Florida's been hit by strong winds and flooding, after Hurricane Idalia made landfall as a Category three storm. It's actually the most violent storm to hit this part of Florida in 100 years. Buildings have been washed away, thousands are without power and there's lots and lots of flooding. Authorities still don't know how much damage has been done. But there are signs that Florida might not have been hit as badly as expected. Authorities are warning that the threat isn't over, as the storm keeps making it's way up to Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. And experts say the US could see more of these natural disasters in the months to come.

TAYLOR SWIFT RECORD

Taylor Swift has broken another major record. She's just become the first female artist on Spotify to reach 100 million monthly followers. It's been a pretty big year for Swift, more than 4 million Aussies tried to buy a ticket to her upcoming tour in February and overall her Eras tour is on track to earn more than any other tour ever, an estimated $1.5 billion dollars in ticket sales.

AFL

The AFL has announced its All-Australian team for 2023, which is essentially the best 22 players from this season. This year the team features 12 new faces including Zak Butters, Errol Gulden, brothers Josh and Nick Daicos and Taylor Walker. Speaking of Tex, at 33 he's actually the oldest first time selection in more than 30 years. GWS forward Toby Greene was picked as captain of the team, which means Port Adelaide is now the only team to never have an all Australian captain. Last night North Melbourne's Harry Sheezel was also awarded the rising star award after he smashed the record for most disposals by any first year player in history.

CRICKET

Mitch Marsh has gotten off to the perfect start as Australia's new 20 20 captain. He smashed a whopping 92 not out, while debutant Tanveer Sangha took 4 wickets as the Aussies cruised to a 111 run victory in the first of the 3 match series

SPEED GOLF

Golf is usually a nice relaxing way to spend an afternoon, but not the British Open Speed Golf Championship where competitors scores are combined with the time they take to complete the course. Englishman Luke Willet took out the men's competition shooting a 67 in just 25 minutes and 39 seconds, while Lauren Cup won the women's shooting a 68 in 40 minutes.

TOMATINA

The annual Tomatina festival has been held in Eastern Spain. Starting as a spontaneous food fight amongst villagers in 1945, the tradition sees about 20,000 attendees spend an hour hurling tonnes of over-ripe tomatoes at each other.  

FUKUSHIMA FISH

Recently the Japanese Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, sat down for a sashimi lunch with seafood that had been caught near Fukushima. That's where Japan has been releasing treated radioactive water from a nearby nuclear power plant. If that's put you off your dinner, you're not alone. Some locals and nearby countries that import the seafood say they're concerned about contamination. But Japan's Prime Minister says there's nothing to worry about.

CHEESE FORTUNE TELLER

Jennifer Billock, from Chicago in the US is a cheese fortune teller. It's called Tyromancy and it's an ancient practice of diving with cheese. Jennifer says she studies the patterns of the cheese to give her customers a glimpse of what the future might hold.
