'Taofimau Tatou Measina Samoa' — Miniseries Episode 2 with Samoan Weaver Lautōfā Aoao from Falealupo

In honour of Samoan Language Week: Our Second Episode of “Taofimau Tatou Measina Samoa” in collaboration with the Australian Museum🎙️🎞️
The miniseries delves into the cultural heritage of Samoa through the voices of Samoan artists who are dedicated to preserving and perpetuating measina Samoa.

In this episode, we have the honour of speaking with Samoan weaver Lautōfā Aoao from Falealupo Savai’i 🇼🇸🤲🏾

“Aua o mea nei, pei la o se fa’ata’ita’iga ia te a’u, e iai la’u fanau a’o’oga, ou te nofo ma fa’ata’ita’i iai le tāāga o le mea lea, ou te nofo ma fa’ata’ita’i iai le faiga o le laufala. E o’o fo’i la i le lalāgaga o le fala, ua iloa fo’i e latou amata, le lalāgaga o le fala. Le la ua ō i le aoga, fo’i mai tu’ua mai, ia e omai saofafa’i iai.”

(As for this skill, like an example for me, I practise and teach my kids on how to prepare and organise the pandanus leaves ‘laufala’. Also practise the weaving technique, where now they know how to skilfully begin on these mats. And routinely, when they return home from school, everyone will be back here weaving again.)
