STORYLINE
The US-led United Nations Command on Wednesday held a repatriation ceremony to return the bodies of two North Korean soldiers who were found in the river running through the heavily fortified inter-Korean border.
About twenty military officers from the United Nations Command in Korea participated in the ceremony at the Korean border village of Panmunjom.
The village is jointly overseen by the UN Command and North Korea, an arrangement established in 1953 to supervise the cease-fire between the two Koreas who remain technically at war.
The UN Command said three North Korean military officers crossed the land military demarcation line, checked the bodies in the coffins and later the UN Command handed the coffins over.
The remains of the two North Korean soldiers arrived in the South Korean side through the Imjin river last September when North Korea was hit by flooding.
