A vulnerable & thought-provoking storytime for me - not only because my hair is a mess! lol. "Braving the Wilderness" is a 2019 bestselling book by social scientist, researcher, author, professor, speaker, mother and - as she writes on her website, "currently enraged Texan" - Brene Brown. Brene Brown researches empathy, shame, vulnerability and belonging, and she collects and uses this data to tell stories to heal people and communities. In this book, she describes the disconnection that is permeating and hurting our modern world as a "spiritual crisis." Brene says, "as a social species, we don't derive strength from our rugged individualism, but rather from our collective ability to plan, communicate, and work together. Our neural, hormonal, and genetic makeup support interdependence over independence. [...] That's why connection matters. It's why it' so painful and debilitating. It's why we're wired for belonging."
