Face To Face With The Reaper is the opening track for the Unspoken Words album by British rock band Ritual Thief.

It was inspired by my near death experience back in 2022 (As are the first three songs on the album).

Woke up in a sterile room, shadows dance on the wall,
Heart's beating, dizzy and cold, I hear the reaper call.
Whispers haunt me in the night, a chill runs through my spine,
Said, “You’ve cheated and you’ve lied, now it’s your time to shine.”

[Chorus with harmonies]
Face to face with the reaper, I ain't backing down,
Like a phoenix from the ashes, I’ll rise up from the ground.
Face to face with the reaper, hear my defiant sound,
I’m not ready for the darkness, I’m reclaiming my crown.

Cursed by the ticking clock, every second feels like years,
I met him on this operating table, pulled apart by fears.
He grinned a hollow smile, told me stories of the lost,
But I’m fighting for my life now, I’m counting every cost.

In the silence, I found strength, a flicker in the dark,
Hope ignited in my chest, igniting every spark.
Longing for tomorrow, for the sunlight on my face,
I'll walk through fire if I must, I’ll embrace this sacred space.

Humbled by the struggle, I bow my head in prayer,
Grateful for the breath I take, each moment I declare.
The reaper tried to take me, but I shattered every chain,
I dance upon the edge of life, no more to live in vain.
