Golden Eagle Facts: North America's LARGEST Bird of Prey

Описание к видео Golden Eagle Facts: North America's LARGEST Bird of Prey

Golden eagles are some of the largest birds of prey in North America. These giant birds can be confused with bald eagles when the later are juveniles, but golden eagle adults don't have that characteristic "bald" head. Golden eagles are active hunters soaring the skies while searching for small mammalian prey. In a dive, they can fly as fast as 150mph (241.4km/h). These birds like wide, open areas with high perches for surveying the land. They'll aggressively defend their nests which they'll share with a potentially lifelong partner.

Scientific Name: Aquila chrysaetos
Range: northern hemisphere throughout North America, Asia, Europe, and Africa
Size: 2.5 feet long (76.2cm), wingspans of 7 feet (2.13cm); females are larger than males
Diet: small mammals like hares, squirrels, and prairie dogs
Lifespan: 30+ years

EDIT: At 1:17 a red kite is shown, not a golden eagle. Sorry for the misidentification on our part!
Also, the beginning of the video might seem a little choppy because we needed to fix a mistake in the YouTube editor. Thanks for your understanding!

***I tried really hard to make sure only golden eagles are pictured in this video, but I'm really not great at identification, so my apologies if something shows up that isn't a golden eagle!!!
