Rachel Herriges (she/her) is an actress and playwright originally from the West Coast who is always diving into new theatre projects in Chicago! Rachel got her BA from Westmont College, double majoring in Theatre and Religious studies. As an author, Rachel enjoys writing works exploring grotesque, unusual, and captivating aspects of humanity with poetic prose.
Her roots have been laid in Chicago as A Short Leap Ensemble Member and a writer in MicroChicago's Playwright Residency. A number of her short plays have transgressed Microsoft Word to breathe new life on stage. These works include Heat, Hot Yoga for Women's Bodies (Chicago Dramatists), and Straw Hats in the Sand (Artery Theatre). As an actor, Rachel has most recently been seen in The Subtle, Sublime Transformation of Benny V as an understudy with A Short Leap, It's a Wonderful Life and Dante 360 with the Athenaeum Center, and several other stages throughout Chicago. She has also dabbled in the production side of theatre since moving to Chicago as a stage manager for Clearing with A Short Leap, and the executive producer for A Short Leap's Intimate Anarchy PlayFest. Founded as a co-curated project in pate 2023 with its inaugural paper festival "Microfest", microChicago has grown to self-produce the first half of The 'L' Cycle, a collection of micro works dedicated to all 145 CTA stations to its first live performances, including the microFest 2: Swing States Reading Convention, Yippiefest and Rhino Fest's The Body Politic, in collaboration with Curious Theatre Branch and Prop Thtr.
microChicago welcomed its Inaugural Playwrights Ensemble, including Scott Carter Cooper, Rachel Herriges, David Lipschutz and Tanise Robnett, featuring quarterly commissions of their work, and the further exploration of Chicago's own microtheatre.
