Rabbi Mary Beth Raskin Receives the Sherwin T. Wine Lifetime Achievement Award - December 6, 2024

Rabbi Mary Beth Raskin is the 2024 recipient of the Sherwin T. Wine Lifetime Achievement Award. Mary discovered Humanistic Judaism at Oraynu Congregation while living in Toronto on a work assignment. Upon returning to Portland, OR, she became involved as a volunteer leader in Kol Shalom Community for Humanistic Judaism. Mary then applied to the Leadership Program of the International Institute for Secular Humanistic Judaism and, after certification, went on to complete the Rabbinic Program and receive ordination in 2023. During that time, Mary expanded her leadership role in the Humanistic Judaism movement, serving as Board President of the Society for Humanistic Judaism for four years, leading with grace and dignity. Mary recently established Cultural Synagogue. Mary embodies the Humanistic Judaism values of empathy, compassion, social justice, competence, and reliability.
