It is a four link mechanism which has:-

1) Fixed Link/Frame
2) Slider (which is having translational motion)
3) Crank(which is having rotational motion)
4) Connecting rod

USE/FUNCTION OF SLIDER CRANK MECHANISM:-

Whenever the crank rotates, there will be a translational motion performed by the slider or vice versa. So, it converts the rotational motion into the translational motion or translational motion into the rotational motion.

Now, think of the situation where this mechanism can be used.

You must have heard of the piston cylinder assembly most often when you studied thermodynamics. Where is piston cylinder assembly used. It is used in the engine of car (or can be jet engine etc). The same mechanism is employed in it where the piston takes translational motion and the crank which is connected to crankshaft rotates.
