Описание к видео Enlarged Mesenteric Lymph nodes in a child of 6 years.

This video shows enlarged Mesenteric Lymph nodes in a child of 6 years.
Enlarged abdominal lymph nodes are frequently encountered in asymptomatic children and should not always be considered abnormal. Enlarged abdominal lymph nodes exceeding 10 mm in their shortest axis in children with abdominal pain may represent mesenteric lymphadenitis of various causes.
A sonogram of normal mesenteric lymph nodes shows that they are ovoid, with a prominent fatty hilum.
Mesenteric lymph nodes with a mean least diameter of 19 mm (range, 4.7 mm to 9 cm) were commonly found in children with mesenteric lymphadenitis.
For the most part, your lymph nodes tend to swell as a standard response to infection. They may also swell due to stress. Some of the most common illnesses associated with swollen lymph nodes include colds, ear infections, the flu, tonsillitis, skin infections, or glandular fever.
What size is enlarged lymph nodes?
Lymph Nodes are generally considered to be normal if they are up to 1 cm in diameter; however, some authors suggest that epitrochlear nodes larger than 0.5 cm or inguinal nodes larger than 1.5 cm should be considered abnormal. Little information exists to suggest that a specific diagnosis can be based on node size.
Lymph nodes in the neck, armpit, or groin are close to the surface of the skin and are easy to see and feel. Others, such as those deep inside the abdomen (stomach) or the chest, can't be felt from the outside.
What cancers cause swollen lymph nodes?
When more than one area of lymph nodes is swollen it's called generalized lymphadenopathy. Some infections (such as strep throat and chickenpox), certain medicines, immune system diseases, and cancers like lymphoma and leukemia can cause this kind of swelling.
The most common cause of mesenteric lymphadenitis is a viral infection, such as gastroenteritis — often called stomach flu. This infection causes inflammation in the lymph nodes in the thin tissue that attaches your intestine to the back of your abdominal wall (mesentery).
Mesenteric lymph nodes are considered to be enlarged when their short axis was 8 mm or more. Although 3 mm has previously been used as the upper limit for the short-axis diameter of mesenteric lymph nodes, up to 39% of healthy normal patients have larger nodes than this.
Mesenteric lymphadenitis is likely more common than acute appendicitis in the first decade of life. Acute appendicitis becomes more frequent in the second decade, whilst mesenteric lymphadenitis is distinctly uncommon after the age of 20 years.
A normal young adult body contains up to 450 lymph nodes, of which about 60-70 are found in the head and neck, 100 in the thorax, and as many as 250 in the abdomen and pelvis.
Lymph nodes up to 4.6 mm in the maximum short-axis diameter and 3.6 mm in the mean size are frequently found in the mesentery of the healthy population. These nodes are a normal finding and require no follow-up imaging.
Mesenteric lymphadenitis is an inflammation of lymph nodes. The mesenteric lymph nodes which become inflamed are in a membrane that attaches the intestine to the abdominal wall (Mesentery). There are hundreds of lymph nodes that help the body fight against diseases. They trap and destroy microscopic "invaders" like viruses or bacteria.
The most common cause of mesenteric lymphadenitis is a viral infection, such as gastroenteritis. Other common causes include bacterial infection, inflammatory bowel disease, and lymphoma. in underdeveloped countries, TB of the intestine is also an important cause.
Mesenteric adenitis is not normally dangerous, but having inflamed lymph nodes for a long time may be a sign of something more serious. If the glands are swollen due to a severe bacterial infection, and it is left untreated, it can spread to the bloodstream, and this can lead to sepsis.
Symptoms of mesenteric adenitis can include:-
1). Pain in the lower right part of the abdomen, or in other parts of the belly.
2). Fever.
3). Nausea and vomiting.
4). Diarrhea.
5). General sick feeling called malaise.
6). Weight loss.
