Military Physical Therapist Finds Her Niche in Home Care

Описание к видео Military Physical Therapist Finds Her Niche in Home Care

Kerri Tuttle, PT, came to BAYADA after working at a fast-paced outpatient army clinic that left her feeling she couldn’t help people the way she wanted to anymore. The philosophy when she was working on post was to see more and more soldiers, not to take the time to really give them the undivided attention they might need. So, she moved on. Now as a BAYADA Physical Therapist in Tucson, AZ, Kerri has the time to work one-on-one with clients, helping them regain the function, mobility, and quality of life they may have lost due to an illness, injury, surgery, or chronic condition.

Kerri’s a born caregiver, and she proved that when she flipped to a completely different population and demonstrated the same amount of care and compassion. As her wife Kate says, “That’s everything that medicine should be.”

Kerri’s former client, Terri, described the moment she first walked through her door: “There was something that just hit me. You knew from the get-go she cared.”

BAYADA provides a space where clinicians who truly love people can thrive—with their clients and with other clinicians on their team. Kerri, with the help of Kate, brings her team together by hosting therapy get-togethers at their home. They find ways to get involved at the senior living centers at which they’re providing care, like building a float for Mardi Gras. The team is always first and foremost, which means that the team can provide the best care. And that team environment means that the Physical Therapy Assistants that work with Kerri (and other BAYADA PTs) benefit from an open, inclusive environment, where everyone is learning and supporting one another.

Kerri’s journey from military PT to BAYADA PT broadens the definition of a hero. They’re not always the ones storming the gates with weapons or fortifying borders. Sometimes, a hero is a person who goes out and talks to everyday people and finds out their needs, because that’s what really makes a difference in a person’s life. It’s someone who’s able to pay attention to every single person they interact with and take an opportunity to do something kind. Kerri was a hero when she served in the military, and she’s a hero now at BAYADA.
