Henri I De Guise - Murdered by Henri IV Of France: Henri de Lorraine, 3rd Duke of Guise and 2nd Prince of Joinville, also known as "Henri Le Balafré was born on 31 December 1550 in Joinville (Haute-Marne) and murdered on 23 December 1588 in Blois. He was a prince from a younger branch of the House of Lorraine.
At the head of a powerful aristocratic network, Henri De Guise became popular during the French religious wars as a defender of the Catholic faith. After taking part during Bartholomew’s night, he distinguished himself several times on the battlefield by fighting the Protestants. As Prince de Joinville, then Duke of Guise, and as Grand Master and Peer of France, he held an important position at court.
As head of the Catholic League, Henri De Guise aspired to govern France. He aimed to reduce the political influence of the Protestant party in France, by virtue of the principle of the Catholicity of the crown.
Henri De Guise was assassinated on the orders of Henri III, during the Estates General at the Château de Blois. His death indirectly led to the assassination of the Henri III Of France
