In this video we will show you how to install our Ultimate Edge Tape in under 10 minutes.

Tools Needed:
Heat gun or hairdryer - Used on a lower heat setting when forming the edges of the tape around your edgeguard and to activate the adhesive.
Scissors - Just to trim your edge tape when finished
Isopropyl alcohol - to clean your edgeguard to remove any dirt, debris, and oils
Optional adhesive remover
Finishing tape or a fresh overgrip to reattach your grip or overgrip if you want to hide the ends of your new edge tape under your grip for a super clean look.

Paddle Prep - Cleaning
Your paddle's edgeguard should be free of any dirt, old tape residue, and oils. If your paddle is free of tape residue, then a simple wipe down with Isopropyl alcohol should be enough.
If you have old tape residue, then you will need a stronger cleaner to completely remove that and then finish the prep with a wipe down with alcohol. Pay attention to the area near the top of your grip as there is often tape residue from old tape from overgrips
IMPORTANT NOTE: Goo Gone adhesive remover was a suggested adhesive remover in the video We have successfully used to for tape adhesive removal, but it can leave an oily residue that you absolutely have to remove completely to ensure the edge tape will adhere properly. After some recent testing we discovered that some citrus water-based adhesive removers are probably a safer option because most of these should not leave an oily residue and can still clean off the tape residue. We still recommend thoroughly cleaning with isopropyl alcohol afterwards to ensure that 100% of the edgeguard is free of any oils, dirt, or other residue.

Tape stretch during installation:
Tape installation will be far easier if you keep the tape stretched as you apply it to your paddle. Keeping tension on the tape as you apply it will make it easier to form the tape around the curves and corners of your paddle without wrinkles. It is not recommended to heat up the tape when doing this as this can result is uneven stretching. A firm stretch as you apply the tape should leave you with about an inch of excess tape on the average paddle.

Heating Notes:
#1 DO NOT OVERHEAT YOUR PADDLE
Heating the tape when forming it around the edges of the paddle will make the tape more flexible and it activates the adhesive. You do not want to exceed 170 degrees for the tape and you want to minimize any heating of the paddle. Use the minimum heat necessary to get the tape pliable and activate the adhesive. I use a heat gun set to a lower temperature for this purpose. If you can't adjust your heat gun low enough, you may need to keep it further away from the paddle and tape when heating, or use a hair dryer set to low air flow and medium heat. Just a brief application of heat to the tape you are working with is all that is necessary. You only need to warm up the tape itself, not the paddle. You will quickly see and feel the tape get much more flexible and easier to work around the paddle. The tape will cool quickly so you will work with a small area at a time, warming and then forming and pressing the tape in place. If you discover an edge of your tape is lifting slightly you can simply warm that area up and press the tape back down. Sometimes this is the result of not warming up the tape sufficiently to fully activate the adhesive, or just missing a spot while pressing down your tape edges. To prevent this, you can also finish your installation by "heat sealing" the edge of your tape by simply warming it up and pressing down along the entire edge of the tape to ensure complete adhesion.

Managing Wrinkles:
Wrinkles can start to form around the tighter bends of your paddle's edgeguard. When forming the tape on one side of the paddle you can prevent wrinkles with the following steps:
1 - Start at the center and only form the center of the edge around toward the paddle face
2 - On each corner, warm up the tape an gradually start to form the tape around the edge while sliding your thumb or finger towards the center of that side away from the corner. This will slightly pull the tape away from the corner. Just focus on the half of the corner on the side you are working on and tackle the other half of the corner when you work on the top edge or paddle throat .
3 - Do the same as step 2 for the lower corners.
If you discover a wrinkle later, you can warm up that area, carefully lift the tape to just beyond the wrinkle, and then gradually form that area back around the paddle while pressing away from the wrinkle on both sides.
