Описание к видео Huge Rotating Wall Cloud by Beaver, OK and Amazing Near 4 hour Norman, OK Lightning Show! - 6/17/23

BEST CHASE IN THE 5 YEARS WE HAVE DONE PLAINS CHASING! Amazing way to close out the 2023 chasing trip! Yup this actually beat out the previous days storm, the landspout/epic shelf cloud event of 2021 in Nebraska/Kansas, and the 2019 blue mothership storm we got in the Wyoming/Colorado chase. This storm was on another level and man it's INSANE how this did not produce at least a small tornado cause this storm was rotating and cycling so many times. Well....actually it did eventually produce a tornado but this was when we bailed on the storm to keep ahead of the growing MCS this was merging with. Even if we kept on the tornado that it produce by Laverne, OK there's no way to have seen it as it was completely rain wrapped in a tricky area. Time lapse is at 6:55:12 and full radar and satellite sequences is at 6:53:11.

So this chase day began with us in Guymon, OK and we were in a really good spot for the set up. Models were hinting that storms would form right where we were and there would be a window of time before the MCS and Derecho would form and eat up any discrete storm. We would try and keep ahead of this as we went back to Norman, OK and Alex's place where we'd just say till the 6/19 when Rich and myself flew home to our respective areas. As for this day in general we got out of the hotel and then had lunch across the street basically and we were in 100% no rush to move from Guymon. We were in a prime spot and we had a lot of time to kill so we decided to go to the nearby park and just relax and chill for a good while. Got the frisbee and football and just relaxed for a while.

We saw several chasers at this No Man's Land Park in Guymon including Pezman who I met in 2020 and it was cool to see him again for a time. He went off South to Texas where there was another set up for the day but we were staying in Guymon, OK. Also since we had time, Rich and I got our cameras out to get some shots of the clouds overhead for a while. Nice little ASMR session for some if I do say so myself. :P Anyway around 4pm, Alex who had radar and satellite up for much of the time noticed we needed to get moving a little SW of Guymon as stuff was starting to pop up. We went South of town and we set up for filming and watching small little storms that were starting to get cooking. We were there for just over 20 minutes and then one storm took off and that was our target supercell.

We made our way East of Guymon, OK and the chase was on as the storm we were on quick and rapidly grew and went tornado warned. We had a good view of the base and stuff of the supercell and we would see if it anything started to go. We were looking for a road to the North to get closer to this storm and we had to go East of Hardesty, OK and made our way to US-83 N and we went to get a closer look on this storm. This was starting to get it's act together pretty quick and had a decent wall cloud on it and we found a spot on EW 23 Rd just off US-83 and it was a perfect spot for the next over 20 minutes to watch and this storm was trying hard to tornado produce but it never did. There also were a LOT of chasers around US-83 and no surprise cause this was the big storm of the region. One thing to note was the inflow into this storm at this time was about 30 mph so I needed to keep an eye on my camera and tripod. Rich and Alex were off to my left on the other side of the car but man it was a amazing view.

As this pulled away we needed to get back East to get ahead of this again and as we got back on US-412 to get to US-270 we could see this cycled back a new huge wall cloud and likely had a couple small funnels on it that were trying to form within it. We made it to US-270 N and we blasted North to gain ground on the storm and it was insane how large the wall cloud was on this. It quickly grew fast and we were looking for a spot to pull off and we managed to find a spot just off US-270 on Hollow E0210 Rd. Lot of chasers were around the area and especially turning onto this road. We had a perfect view of the wall cloud and it was spinning so quick. It's was incredible seeing how you could see this rotating in real time in the speed it was going in and yet....we were on this for 8 minutes watching this race East and nothing. Not even a tornado and this shocked a lot of people and us. The thing is it may have been the RFD was too strong and just kept barely undercutting the inflow but man this was close each time to produce. Lot of dancing protrusions under that wall cloud.

Eventually we got back East on US-412 but the tornado potential was done as the MCS caught it (though later tornado produce in Laverne) and we headed back to Norman, OK where I would film the 4 hours of lightning on the derecho back at Alex's place. INSANE way to end the 2023 storm chase trip! WOW!
