What is Hair Color Undertone?

The undertone in hair color refers to the base tone that supports the main shade. It influences how the final color appears on the hair and is very important in neutralization and correction.

Types of Undertones in Hair Color
• Warm Undertones – Yellow, Orange, Red
(Gives warmth like golden, copper, mahogany tones)
• Cool Undertones – Blue, Violet, Ash Green
(Gives a cool, muted effect like ash, beige, pearl tones)
• Neutral Undertones – Balanced between warm and cool
(Gives natural look, neither too warm nor too cool)

Example:
• Level 6 (Dark Blonde) → Natural undertone: Orange
• Level 8 (Light Blonde) → Natural undertone: Yellow


How to Identify Undertone in Natural Hair?
• Level 1–3 (Black to Dark Brown): Red undertone

The ratio refers to how much color tube is mixed with developer.
