Dr. Grani introduces the challenge at-hand: appropriate risk stratification of patients with differentiated thyroid cancer based on clinical features of a real-world, observational, prospective dataset. This particular study from Dr. Grani included consecutive cases with a histological diagnosis of differentiated thyroid cancer and at least one follow-up visit.

Dr. Grani presents the results: the importance of each newly-assessed feature in the final prediction model. Age at diagnosis and body mass index (BMI) played an important role in prediction of patient outcomes. Novel clusters proposed in this study take into account these newly learned, and highly important, clinical features.

Dr. Thomas compares and contrasts the ATA-proposed continuum of risk with Dr. Grani's data-derived, newly-proposed clusters of risk. As more variables are added into the risk models, more differences are seen between Dr. Grani's model and the ATA-proposed continuum of risk.

39:14 Study Limitations
Dr. Thomas shares that Dr. Grani's study was derived from data primarily based in Italy, and may not be transferable to other populations. Furthermore, the use of subjective variables in the model may add bias. External validation will also need to be performed.
