Ritual Design and Performance Evaluation - Full Moon Rite
1. Intention
On this full moon, I perform this rite to invite clarity, inner balance, and guidance from both the visible and invisible worlds.
I open myself to the wisdom that arises from the celestial realms and the underworld.
This rite is performed in the name of my patron Goddess Lilith, to whom I am devoted, and under the One Light that permeates all existence. May clarity reveal my path, and may all worlds speak in harmony.
2. Mirror Work: Preparing the Mind
The ritual begins with the mirror exercise to silence the mind and attune my sensory apparatus.
Sitting before a mirror with a candle on either side and incense before me.
Observing my reflection with equanimity, asking myself:
“Who am I?
What am I?
Why am I here?”
Letting answers arise without judgment.
Alter the reflection in the mirror gently, experimenting with shifting, erasing, or changing features.
This practice strengthens mental focus and prepares the imagination for visionary work.
Then I try to charge the reflection with elemental energy by focusing breath and intention through the mirror. Letting it become a portable shrine of vision, aligned with my ritual purpose.
This mirrors the principle of self-reflection, grounding, and control over perception, which I found essential for entering a focused ritual state.
Having gazed into the mirror, I quieten my mind and bring my awareness to the present-
I have seen myself fully, without judgment, and have allowed my reflection in the mirror to shift, to breathe, and to align with the energies I carry.
The mirror has become a portal, a silent witness to my presence, and a vessel charged with clarity and focus.
3. Sacred Space Preparation
With this grounding, I rise from the mirror, carrying the stillness and the vision within me. I turn to the altar, where candles, water, incense, stone, and offerings sitting in their respective quarter/direction await.
I am ready to open the sacred space.
Opening the circle:
The circle will contain the energies I have summoned, both within and around me, the divine and chthonic currents I now invite into this rite.
I lift my hands and keep calling upon the divine names (Adonai. Elohim. El Shaddai, Sabaoth.), invoking protection, illumination, and balance.
As I speak each name, I visualize the elements rising in their quarters:
East — Air: currents of wind rising and sharpening my awareness
South — Fire: a pillar of flame igniting my will
West — Water: waves of watery intuition flowing into the space
North — Earth: stone and root grounding the rite
And a pillar of light connecting the astral to the underworld, passing through my body and heart center.
The circle forms, alive and complete, a container for clarity, guidance, and the merging of worlds.
Altar: On the altar I place:
White candle for the One Light and the Sun
Black candle for the underworld and the Moon
Water for intuition
Stone for stability
Myrrh and frankincense as incense
Red wine as sacred offering, representing the Goddess’
My red crystal and serpent-bone mala, worn throughout the rite to charge it with energy
4. Invocation
Invocation of the One Light
“From the One Light that lives within all creation, let the fires of illumination descend upon this circle and bring clarity to my path”
Invocation of the Underworld
With the black candle lit, I say:
“I stand upon a mountain apex, on a great mountain of stone, I, the summit attainer, stand both upon the keystone of this temple of the earth and the capstone of the heavens, Below the underworld stairs, as I behold the world field, I honor the depths below. May the voices of the underworld offer protection and insight.”
Invocation of Lilith
I turn toward the moon, physically and project my awareness mentally, and say:
“Lilith, Mother of Night, Mistress of Thresholds, I call your presence into this rite. Guide my senses, sharpen my sight, and walk with me between the worlds.”
5. Ritual Act
Offerings
I present the offerings: the burning candles, the incense smoke, the bowl of water, the stone, and the wine.
“Accept these offerings.
Open my path.
Let clarity rise within me.”
Meditation: The Desert of Dual Worlds
I close my eyes.
A gate forms before me, old stone, lunar carvings, symbols of the hidden and the revealed.
I step through it.
I arrive in a vast desert, silent and endless.
The Sun burns on one side, the Moon glows on the other, both suspended over the same sky.
The desert is the field of reality itself, where worlds overlap.
I walk between them, in the middle path, the place of equilibrium and revelation. (...)
