The chip shortage has been hitting the EV industry hard. Recently NIO was forced to stop vehicle production for up to five days. This is not the only company or even the only carmaker that went through the same issue. What happened? What caused this production stop and most importantly, are they behind and how will they recover?

NIO has been a part of the headlines for a time now. Recently, the company was the first high-profile Chinese EV maker to fall victim to the semiconductor shortage. This issue is being faced all around the world with many companies. The operations were halted for a total of five days at the JAC-NIO plant in the capital of the province Hefei. This situation will be a serious blow to NIO as it is also expected to bring the production figures down from the expected 20,000-20,500 units to a new figure of 19,500 units. These are the total number of vehicles NIO produced in the first quarter of 2021. Many different factors play their part in the shortage.
