Описание к видео Let’s take a look inside the first IKEA store ever, located in the small Swedish town of Älmhult.

With its 6,700 square meters it was at the time in 1958 the largest furniture store in Scandinavia, indeed a great milestone in Swedish furniture history! Since a couple of years the building, once designed by architect Claes Knutson, holds the IKEA museum. Follow us to Älmhult and take a look at the white modernist building, the old office of Ingvar kamprad and not least an amazing ball pit installation. Welcome to Älmhult!

Ikea was founded by Ingvar Kamprad back in 1943 as a mail-order sales business, and began to sell furniture five years later. The name is an acronym that consists of the founder's initials (Ingvar Kamprad), and those of Elmtaryd (the family farm where he was born) and the nearby village Agunnaryd (his home-village in Småland). It’s first major store was opened in the Swedish town of Älmhult in 1958 under the name Möbel-IKÉA (Furniture-IKEA). As of June 2019, there were 433 IKEA stores operating in 52 countries.
