When the co-founder of Verona Collection, Lisa Vogl, converted to Islam in 2011, she started to wear the hijab full-time and discovered how challenging it was to find affordable, modest fashion pieces. This was a problem at the forefront of Vogl's mind since her career was rooted in fashion. In 2010, she quit her job to study photography and launched a career as an international modest fashion photographer. Two years later, Vogl got married and had her first son, Elias, putting a halt to her growing business. But Vogl wasn’t fulfilled as a stay at home mom, and after the birth of her second child, she decided to invest in her creative ambition once again. In 2015, Vogl decided to pair up with her co-founder, Alaa Ammuss, to create Verona Collection and provide Muslim women with accessible, affordable clothing options that aligned with their identity. The two invested $7,000 to launch a collection with just seven pieces. In a few weeks, the duo sold their entire inventory. However, just a few months after the collection's launch, Vogl became a single mom and realized her business must provide for her family in a way she hadn’t before. Vogl learned how to make the most of her small budget, and in a few years, Verona Collection was met with national acclaim, teaming up with Macy’s in 2018 to launch the department store’s first modest clothing line. Through her success, Vogl not only gives back to her community, but also continues to provide Muslim women a larger platform for representation.
