The province has approximately 2.5 million inhabitants, which puts it in third place in the Netherlands. In terms of area, it is the largest after Gelderland. The province is the third largest economy in the Netherlands, after North Holland and South Holland. The agriculture and horticulture sector is traditionally strong, as is forestry.
