Combatting Orwellian Systems with Max Tegmark and Juan Benet | Breakthroughs In Computing

Technological advances have enabled mass surveillance at a scale unimagined even by "1984," George Orwell's dystopian novel published in 1949. Current structures allow for governments, large corporations, and who knows who else to spy on, and in some cases control, parts of our lives that should remain private.

Max Erik Tegmark, a professor at the M.I.T. and the president of the Future of Life Institute, and Juan Benet, founder of Protocol Labs, discuss the Orwellian systems and the present and future of surveillance and what it means for all of us.

Breakthroughs in Computing is a Protocol Labs speaker series focused on how technology will shape society in the next 5-25 years. This talk was recorded in October 2022 as part of LabWeek22 in Lisbon, Portugal.
