Zoe Baird was a corporate lawyer from Connecticut. She had worked in the Jimmy Carter White House. Clinton called her a woman of integrity and decency and a gifted attorney.

But soon after she was nominated for AG, a scandal began to brew. It would become known as "Nannygate."

Baird admitted to hiring two illegal immigrants, one to babysit, the other to be a chauffeur. They were from Peru, and she admitted she didn’t pay the proper taxes for them as staff members.

Newt Gingrich- who at the time was House Minority Whip was the loudest voice in the room calling for Clinton to withdraw her name.

Baird tried to press on and she went in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee to go through the confirmation hearings.

Those hearings went badly for her and on the second day of Clinton’s presidency, a young White House Communications Director faced the press with an announcement, Baird was bowing out.

This was so damaging, that in political circles, it birthed an expression: "Do you have a Zoe Baird problem?"

A month later, Clinton announced Janet Reno was his new pick for AG.
