Just when you thought you had completed every step in the job application process, you are asked to complete an in-tray exercise.

In its very basic form, it gives employers the opportunity to see how you deal with day to day business tasks, and how you’re likely to perform under pressure. More importantly, they are often designed to test a particular set of key competencies which the employer deems to be important.
