A combined effort from Ireland to Mumbai managed to save the life of a 23-year-old who was attempting suicide live on Facebook by trying to slit his throat with a razor. The man was saved by local police after an alert from the Facebook office in Ireland.

Facebook headquarters in Ireland informed Mumbai Police that a 23-year-old man was attempting suicide and streaming it live on Facebook on Sunday night. Within 50 minutes of the call, a team of police reached the house and managed to save him.

The man was admitted to a hospital where he is recuperating and is now out of danger.

On Sunday around 8.10 pm, Mumbai Police Cyber DCP Rashmi Karandikar got a call from Facebook headquarters in Ireland that a man from Mumbai is attempting suicide and streaming it live on Facebook. The Facebook headquarters in Ireland also shared screenshots.

The man was seen crying on the Facebook live stream while attempting to cut his throat with a razor. The cyber police team immediately tracked the location.

Within 20 minutes the team managed to track him down. DCP Rashmi Karandikar said, "Within 10 minutes we got the location and identified the building in Dhule. We immediately informed senior officers in Dhule."

Around 9 pm, police personnel from Dhule reached the house and rescued him. He was found bleeding from the neck and was rushed to the hospital. The man is now out of danger.

An officer said, "It was a race against time. On the live stream he had already started to cut his throat with a razor blade. Therefore, we had to reach at the spot at the earliest.”
