Welcome back to the channel on today’s video. I’ve been called out to a customers house because they heard a loud bang from underneath the stairs. That is where the hot water cylinder is so I’ve turned upon inspection. The expansion vessel is led on the floor.. thankfully for the customers the previous installer put a insanely long flexible hose on the expansion vessel and that has stopped it from rupturing even though it’s fully kicked on the floor.

So the plan of today is to remove the expansion vessel and fit a new one and a hard pipe it in copper after bolting it on the wall.  what I think has happened to the expansion vessel is that it is failed as there is a diaphragm on the inside and you’re supposed to have majority air inside and if that diaphragm ruptures then water is able to fill the whole expansion vessel and there it becomes really heavy and pulls on any fixings on the wall and in this case it ripped it straight out.

The first thing first is to shut the water off and open up all the tabs as I will get rid of all the water sat above me and there is a dream point on the cold feet below so attaching a hosepipe I’ll be able to get rid of most of the water as the Combi block is positioned below the hot water cylinder. Ideally what you want is that Combi block to be plumbed above the hot water cylinder as if any repairs are needed you don’t have to drain any of the water down as it’s the highest point.

Now the water is out and drained as much as possible. I haven’t drained it fully but only about a third from the top so that should be enough for me to be able to lift the extractor vessel out which is extremely heavy. As I thought the expansion vessel is full of water as you can see so it’s time to hang our new bracket on the wall and install a new expansion vessel.

I like to install my expansion vessels using Loctite thread and also tightening using my pipevise amigo slim the spanner never slip. After hovering a piece of pipe and marking where we’re gonna have to bend over another pipe I’m going to use my 15 and 22 mm pipe bender from a company called Bend it now. This company make an exact replica of the well used. Hilmor benders as they don’t make them as they used to

A full crossover this is just my method of doing it and what I like to do is Mark the centre for the first bend and then flip them over and pull the second one gauge in as much jump over as you need . Once this band has been done, I can then match the first bend to be the same and then it’s just a case of flipping them over and then in the third band to be in line. This is just my easy way of bending a full crossover without measuring too much.

After Plumbing a new male iron fitting into the Comby block I can use a laser level to mark the centre of the pipe from the expansion vessel to the Combi block to connect to all up I’m just gonna use some Viega press fittings for speed and ease.

The vessel hung on the wall safely and now piped up in copper we could turn the water on a test for leaks.
